If you’re thinking of trying to complete a long distance walk, pubs provide walkers with a great alternative to traditional B&Bs or hotels. Not only do pubs and inns in the North York Moors offer accommodation at reasonable prices, but they also offer walkers somewhere to stay with a sociable and lively atmosphere.
Today pub rooms are individually styled and full of character and charm. Rooms are comfortable, clean and fitted with all the modern necessities such as Freeview, flat screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and luxurious beds. After fantastic day out exploring the North York Moors, walkers can retire to their room to relax, maybe have a soak in the bath, and then pop just downstairs for some delicious home cooked food, great ale and company.
The North York Moor National Park is perfect for walking as it is home to one of the largest areas of heather moorland in the UK. The following walking routes are suitable for all ages of ability. Long Distance Walks
However, if you are looking for more of a challenge and want to take part in a longer walking holiday, there are plenty of options available and you’ll really discover the incredible beauty of the North York Moors. The following are long distance walks:
Cleveland Way National Trail
This is the North York Moors Nationak Park flagship walk and is 109 miles! It takes roughly nine days to complete and starts at Helmsley and finishes on the coast at Filey.
The Yorkshire Wolds National Trail
This is slightly smaller than the Cleveland Way trail at 79 miles. It takes about seven days to complete and takes walkers from the Humber Estuary to Filey
The Esk Valley Walk
For a less strenuous walk the Esk Valley Walk is 35 miles and goes from the sources of the River Esk to the coast at Whitby.
Tabular Hills Walk
This walk is 48 miles long and starts at Scarbourough then takes walkers along the Tabular Hills to Helmsley. It takes about four days to complete. However if you really want to discover as much of the North York Moors as possible, if you combine this walk with the Cleveland Way National Trail you will walk around the entire perimeter of the North York Moors National Park! Just be warned it takes two weeks to complete!
Lyke Wake Walk
This is the most challenging walk out all the long distance walks on offer in the North York Moors. It is only 40 miles starting from Osmotherley and finishing at Ravenscar (East to West), however many walkers have tried to complete it under 24 hours since the 1950s. If you are attempting this walk in under 24 hours you must be properly skilled, prepared and supported.
