Cycling in Devon is a fantastic way to get around and explore the wonderful countryside and coastline the county has to offer. Whether you are planning a cycling holiday or just a casual bike ride, there are plenty of fantastic routes across Devon to choose from. We have listed a handful below:

The Exe Estuary

The Exe Estuary Trail is a scenic cycling and walking route which runs along the beautiful Exe Estuary linking Exmouth and Dawlish with Exeter Quay. A 26 mile, mainly flat cycle route and walkway which runs around the entire Exe Estuary, with fantastic views along the River Exe. The cycling route provides a perfect opportunity to admire beautiful riverside towns and villages steeped in maritime history.

The Granite Way

A fantastic family cycle route, the Granite Way is a beautiful purpose built cycle track running between Okehampton and Lydford. There are spectacular views from Meldon Viaduct and Lake Viaduct, as well as idyllic pubs peppered along the route, all offering home cooked food and real ale.

The Tarka Trail

The Tarka Trail is a cycle and pedestrian path in the North Devon Biosphere Reserve. It runs in a 163 mile route through untouched landscapes. The Trail passes through the towns of Lynmouth, Barnstaple, Bideford, Torrington, Okehampton and Ilfracombe and parts of the trail coincide with the South West Coast Path, the Two Moors Way and the Dartmoor Way.

Devon coast to coast, Ilfracombe to Plymouth

A long and beautiful route that is not too daunting for the average cyclist. Beginning along the popular coast of north Devon, the route takes riders through the valleys of a series of rivers, following the western edge of Dartmoor for much of the way before arriving in historic Plymouth.

Drake’s Trail

Between Tavistock and Plymouth, Drake’s Trail in West Devon is a 21 mile cycling and walking route. This important part of Devon’s recreational route network runs through wonderful countryside with attractive scenery along the western edge of Dartmoor.
