Things to Do in Hampshire

Whether visiting for a day trip or short break, you’ll find lots of things to do and see in Hampshire, with so many attractions and experiences available. For those who want to explore the countryside, Hampshire offers tourists and visitors alike miles of serene countryside to explore, stretching from the South Downs National Park in the east to the New Forest National Park in the west. The picture perfect countryside offers fun days out for all the family, whether you are looking to sightsee or do a bit of walking or cycling there is lots of areas to explore and enjoy.

Discover the New Forest

The majestic New Forest is home to approximately 4,000 ponies, cattle and deer that roam freely amongst the ancient woodland. It covers an area of 566 square kilometres and is made up of vast areas of unspoilt forest, heathland and river valleys. The New Forest coastline is also protected and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Tourists wishing to visit the coast can visit the cliff tops at Barton-on-Sea or take a scenic ferry ride from Hurst Castle at Milford-on-Sea to Keyhaven harbour.

South Downs National Park

From the gentle rolling hills of Hampshire to the iconic white cliffs of East Sussex, South Downs National Park covers 1,600 km of picture perfect English countryside, rich wildlife, rolling hills and altogether amazing views. Visitors can choose to walk, cycle or even ride on horseback along the 101 mile South Downs Way.

Sightseeing and Heritage in Hampshire 

Hampshire is home to a diverse range of centuries-old castles. Visit Winchester Castle in the heart of the city or check out The Great Hall, which is home to King Arthurs Round Table. Discover the Anglo Saxon Portchester Castle located in Fareham, a medieval castle built within a former Roman fort at Portchester. Or head to Hurst Castle, close to Milford on Sea which has incredible views of the Solent and Isle of Wight.

Jane Austin

Visit the home of England’s most celebrated novelists, Jane Austin. Not only was Hampshire a place she lived, but it was also an inspiration in many of her novels. In fact, lots of places in the county are associated with the famous writer. There are numerous guided walks and tours which retrace the footsteps of Jane across the beautiful Hampshire countryside that inspired her writing.

Family Attractions

Hampshire’s theme parks and adventure parks offer a fantastic kids days out. If you have little children, Paultons Theme Park, Home of Peppa Pig World will no doubt be very popular. Paultons Park was voted number one theme park in the UK by Tripadvisor and is perfect for families looking to entertain their little ones for the day.

Marwell Zoo in Winchester is home to hundreds of endangered and exotic species in 140 acres of beautiful parkland. A great day out for all the family, there is a range of wildlife and exotic animals to see and admire.

Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve is a national nature reserve in Fareham. Enriched with rivers, marshlands and terrific scenery, the national reserve is a great place to explore with the family and reconnect with nature. visitors can see all kinds of wildlife such as deer, foxes and wetland plants.

Walking and Cycling Trails
